Pure Milk release 4th single 'Expectations'
Gold Coast indie rock collective Pure Milk presents “Expectations” a new single from the bands forthcoming EP “Self-Improvement”, due in October 2019. Just in time to pull us through these cold winter months “Expectations” is the perfect anthem to revel in at Friday night pre-drinks, depicting that classic inner dialogue: ‘why am I even here?’
As previous single “Palm Beach,” a “cracking slice of angular and heartfelt indie-rock done right” (Blank GC) continues to receive love on radio and Spotify, including 6-weeks on the editorial playlist Local Noise, new single “Expectations” dances and staggers its way into the homes of countless youths. Through sharp, concise vocals, Lewis Nitschinsk the bands songwriter, describes the addictive plight of binge-drinking your Friday night away around cheap patio tables: Just drink another beer man // Have another shot // You were cooler than this two years ago // Just drink another beer man // Have another shot // Never ever spend a Friday alone.
It’s been a busy and exciting 6 months for the band, playing some of their biggest shows to date, supporting DZ Deathrays, Eliza & The Delusionals, WHARVES, Peach Fur, and Sweater Curse (to name a few) and receiving local acclaim for an intense, chaotic live show.
“With the cerebral observations of wordsmith front man Lewis, this five piece sound like a thinking man’s garage rock group” – Good Call Live
Pure Milk have drawn influence from the DIY ethic of the Australian underground scene, writing songs self-described as “wholesome indie punk with a tinge of slacker rock” (think Parquet Courts / Car Seat Headrest / Courtney Barnett) where strong, emotionally fuelled lyrical wordplay remain at the forefront of their music.
This latest offering will be part of a new EP “Self-Improvement”, due out October 2019. “Self-Improvement” is better represented as a time capsule for the band with some songs dating back to 2017 when they were just beginning to play their first live shows. At its core the EP is filled with the punk rock vigour you’d expect from the band but is further elevated by lyrical and emotional sensitivity not seen in their earlier material. Throughout, Nitschinsk reflects on his hometown, self-esteem, consumerism, social anxiety, FOMO, becoming an able-bodied adult and making sure you’re always there for your friends.
